Introduction

In late 2023, Autograph shifted its product direction from a bespoke NFT curator to a platform centered around sports fandom. I joined the project post-MVP to lead design operations, an exciting phase as we began scaling and building a content-rich experience for sports fans.

Key Goals

Guided by a mission to bring unique value to sports fans, our goals centered on product-market fit, a refined user experience, and integrating accessible Web3 features.

Establish Product Market Fit

Position Autograph within the sports fandom space by identifying key user needs, adjusting our product to resonate with our audience, and iterating based on feedback.

Continue Developing User Experience

Evolve the user experience to deliver an intuitive, enjoyable product that sports fans will return to, with an emphasis on accessibility and engagement.

Incorporate Web3 Architecture

Seamlessly integrate Web3 elements into the platform, creating an accessible entry point for our users.

Sorting Parts

When I joined, my teammate and I began by assessing current designs and identifying immediate design needs. This allowed us to establish the fundamental atomic elements—such as type, color, and layout—that would become the backbone of our design language.

A comparison of component designs from MVP to Version 1, showcasing the evolution from basic layouts to a refined, polished interface.

In collaboration with Adopt, Autograph underwent a bold rebrand, embracing a dynamic visual identity that highlights sports culture and fan engagement.

Rebranding

In early 2024, our company went through a visual rebrand. While it didn’t significantly impact our design system, we quickly absorbed these changes into our workflow, ensuring brand consistency as we moved forward.

Listening & Testing

From day one, we prioritized user feedback and data analysis. By constantly testing and iterating based on user signals, we stayed closely aligned with our audience’s needs. Being a small team allowed us to pivot quickly—removing outdated features and rolling out improvements that truly resonated with users.

User feedback inspired the implementation of stadium map filtering, allowing fans to select seats by specific sections and preferences, enhancing our ticket-buying experience.

Features Go Brrrrr

As we continued rapid development, our platform evolved from a content aggregator to a multifaceted sports experience, including:

Sports Tickets

Enabling users to purchase tickets seamlessly within the platform

Chatrooms

Offering real-time engagement spaces for fans to connect.

AI Summary

Providing concise, AI-generated recaps and highlights for sports content.

Sports Betting

Integrating betting options to enhance fan interaction and engagement.

Continued Refinement

Alongside new feature releases, the design team refined the Rewards UI by integrating the ticketing feature, streamlining how users explore and redeem rewards. Through user feedback, we enhanced the overall experience to make it more intuitive and engaging.

Bringing Web3 Onboard

As one of our primary goals, we set out to integrate Web3 components thoughtfully. First, we developed the Autograph Litepaper to outline our Web3 ecosystem. From there, we introduced:

User Profiles with Custodial Hot Wallets: Allowing users to manage their assets within the platform.Achievement

Badges as On-Chain NFTs
: Rewarding users with collectible, blockchain-secured achievements.

WalletConnect (Testing Phase): Enabling secure and simple Web3 access for users to connect their wallets.

Auto-wrapping ETH for users was one way of simplifying buying & bidding

Final Thoughts

Looking back, I’m amazed at what we accomplished in such a short time. Building a cohesive design system, launching cutting-edge features, and continually refining the user experience all came together because of our dedicated team and our freedom to test and iterate.
This experience underscored the power of collaboration and the impact of working in an environment that encourages creativity and growth.
